DILI, May 6, 2020 (TATOLI) – A health professional, who was receiving treatment for COVID-19 at the Vera Cruz isolation centre, has now recovered from the virus, authorities have confirmed.

Integrated Crisis Management Centre (CIGC) spokesman Sérgio Lobo said the man returned a second negative test yesterday.

“He will soon be discharged and will then be able to return to his family,” Dr Lobo said during yesterday’s daily briefing in Dili.

The man is the 21st person to recover from the virus, from 24 confirmed cases. Seven people remain in isolation at the Vera Cruz Community Health Centre.

Dr Lobo, a former health minister, said a further 21 health workers are complying with 14 days mandatory quarantine at home, under surveillance from a medical team.

More than 2,000 people have already served their 14 days mandatory quarantine; just 127 remain at one of the government-run hotel sites, and 47 under quarantine at home.

Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak said he was pleased that most of the confirmed patients have now recovered.

“We are happy because our young people are recovering quickly. This is the best and a success for us, to prepare ourselves well for the future,” he said.
