DILI, 04 August 2020 (TATOLI)– The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Pillars will conduct their fact-finding mission to Dili, Timor-Leste in September 2020, as part of the assessment of Timor-Leste’s readiness to become a member of ASEAN.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Adaljiza Magno said, the team was supposed to visit Timor-Leste in June 2020, but due to the Global Pandemic, the visit has been delayed.
“It is positive that the virtual fact-finding evaluation will be conducted in September with the Secretary of ASEAN, AEC and ASCC to led the team’s assessment for both pillars, “ she said.
To become an ASEAN membership, Timor-Leste’s State and Government must have detailed preparation of the three critical pillars: Political Security (APSC FFM), Economic Community (AEC) and Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).
On 3-6 September 2019, The ASEAN Political-Security Community Fact-Finding Mission (APSC FFM) visited Timor-Leste led by Mrs Busaya Mathelin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand as the first of three fact-finding missions from ASEAN to visit Timor-Leste.
