Timor-Leste-Japan sign 3rd JDS scholarship agreement

DILI, august 27, 2020 (TATOLI)- The Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation has agreed to sign the 3rd batch of the grant project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) with the Government of Japan to pave way for young government officials from Timor-Leste to study in Japan.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno is representing the Government to sign the Agreement with the Japan’s Ambassador to Timor-Leste KINEFUCHI and the Chief Representative of Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) Ko Goto at Timor-Leste Foreign Affairs Office, Dili.

Ms.Magno hopes the participants of this program will make full use of their academic knowledge and practical skills gained trough the study and performing duties back in their respective governmental institution also given better understanding of Japan to Timorese fellows including its nature, society and people.

“I hope that those who participated in the program were also able to make a good network with peers during their study in Japan and promote the people to people relation between both Timorese and Japanese people,” Minister Magno said.

The Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste KINEFUCHI is emphasized on the need of the scholarship for the country and also the advantages.

“I believe this program will be wonderful opportunity for young Timorese leaders not only to get expertise but also to get connected with the likewise young leaders from other Asian nation studying in Japan and build personal ties with them, which will be tremendous asset for not only themselves but for this country in the future,” Ambassador KINEFUCHI said in his speech at MNEC conference hall.

The JDS project had started in 2018 in Timor-Leste, currently 8 fellows have been studying in Japan as first batch and another 8 fellows are expected to start studying from this September as second batch.

This agreement will be opened to another 8 selected fellows to pursue their study from the beginning of next year.

The Selected students will be accommodated at the Japanese University to obtain their respective academic degree.

The study offers to the participants are including the engagement in formulating and implementing social and economic development plans, and leadership study.
