Timor-Leste Sumbmarine Fiber-Optics Cable approved

DÍLI, 04 november, 2020 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers has approved the implementation of the digital connection to Australia through an underwater fibre optic cable system.

The Plan was presented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Planning and Ordination, José Maria dos Reis.

“The submarine fibre-optic cable system follows the digital connection project of Timor-Leste, with a direct connection to the cities of Darwin and Port Hedland, located in the Commonwealth of Australia”, The President for the Council of Minister,Fidélis Magalhães, at the Government Palace.

This option is a safer and better-quality connectivity for the development of the national digital economy which are also intended on promoting sovereignty, cybersecurity and economic rights.

This Government of Timor-Leste is continuing the cooperation with the Government of Australia, this is aimed to increase the capacity of the internet networking within the country since the 8th constitutional Government has set the program for the electronic government, which will be realised and need to have fastest internet line.

Currently, the International band of the Internet is a six (6) Gigabyte/second which is sharing to the population in the entire territories that access to the internet over the operator from Timor-Telcom, Telkomcel and Telemor.

In Spite Government’s Ministry of Transport and Communication rented a bandwidth with a capacity of 200 megabytes to share the network to all the state institutions around 140.
Government has the plan to actualise 200 megabytes to 1 Gigabyte to support when there is no fibre optic.
