DILI, 27 November 2020 (TATOLI)— The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Timor-Leste, Andrew Jacob acknowledges the commitment of the Government in the battle against the malnutrition problem in Timor-Leste.
Andrew Jacobs highlighted this during his speech at the event of food nutrition survey for 2020 at the Ministry of Health Caicoli Dili.
“I recognise the strong political commitment of the Timor-Leste Government to fight against malnutrition and the primary health care service with quality for the community,” Andrew Jacob said.
He said to implement the politic and strategic to fight against the problem of malnutrition in Timor-Leste, it needs full support from the political executive.
Food surveillance and a focus on nutrition will provide quality of information to contribute to the definition of planning implementation of European Union multi-annual for 2012 to 2027.
”The importance from a technical point is to invest in nutrition but to emphasise the investment into maternal health and child nutrition,” he said.
EU supports €10 million to the Ministry of Health to implement a strategic plan for nutrition to improve the quality of primary health services for the population.
”We give a contribution of €10 million, or €2million every year, which is transfer directly to Timor-Leste’s account which is included as part of the OJE. This funding is utilised based on government decisions to reach the achievement of nutritional indicators that have been agreed upon by the Ministry of Health and European Union,” he explained.
