DILI, 23 february 2020 (TATOLI)— Qantas Airline starting its first operation from Darwin, Australia to Dili, Timor-Leste on Wednesday (24/02) The Parliament National approves Air service agreement between Timor-Leste and Australia.
“The first operational flight, Qantas Airline will bring the passengers and the materials from Australia to Timor-Leste on February 24,” Statement on Qantas official page.
The passengers and the transported materials that have been transporting continue to follow the protocol of prevention and combating of covid-19, particularly comply with the mandatory quarantine and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing.
This agreement it is based on the desire of both countries to promote a competitive international aviation system between the air transport companies in the market, with competitive, innovative and safe services.
The proposal of the resolution was established with desire of both countries to promote an international aviation system based on competition between air carriers, encouraging more competitive and safer work.
With this Agreement ratification, airlines will be able to enter the airspace of the two countries without requiring prior authorization, as long as the regulatory requirements, including safety, are met, which will increase competition, which may decrease the costs of tickets and freight transport.
Minister of Transportation and Communication, José Agostinho da Silva, said the ratification agreement intends to strengthen the connection facilities between the two countries.
Australia had its legal basis to design any flight such as Qantas and Virgin Airlines to conduct the operation to Timor-Leste.
Currently Air north has secured the connectivity between Timor-Leste and Australia but only operate until Darwin, the flight is charter thus it is only operating when there is a necessary.
