Dili, 31 march, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak appreciates the supports from the Parliament for authorizing the State of Emergency in the context of the fight against covid-19 in Timor-Leste
The results of the vote on the request of the President of the Republic dictated 49 votes in favor, zero against and 14 abstentions.
“On behalf of the Government, I want to thank the support of the deputies of the National Parliament, which helps to prevent the disease to further spreading within the country,”Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak speech in the context of discussion for the State of the Emergency in the National Parliament.
Prime Minister, Taur stressed that there are two ways to combat covid-19 in Timor-Leste, by implementing the state of emergency and implementing the vaccine.
Taur Matan Ruak also recalled that, since the beginning of the implementation of the measure for the state of emergency, citizens’ rights and freedom have been sacrificed. However, it was necessary to follow international rules to combat this pandemic.
