DILI, 1 april 2021 (TATOLI)– Timor-Leste President of Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo declares, yesterday a 12th period of the State of Emergency for 30 days, starting at 00:00 of April 3, 2021 to 23:59 of May 2, 2021, to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
The declaration was made after the request for the state of emergency was approved in the National Parliament, the results for the vote of request were 49 votes in favour, zero against and 14 abstentions.
The Government request for the Extension for the State of Emergency is due to the fact that the number of covid-19 cases are continued to increase in the country.
According to data from World Health Organization (WHO), on March 23, recorded 123,216,178 of the world’s total COVID-19 infections and killed around 2,714,517 people.
However, Indonesia has registered a total of 1,465,928 covid infections and it has been killing 39,711. people. while in Kupang the West Timor, authority registered 12,012 covid cases with 327 deaths have been recorded.
The Presidential decree specified the same measures as have been implemented in the previous State of Emergency, that provides extraordinary powers to the government to deal with the unfolding crises of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Among the measures are shut down large gatherings, limits the international and national circulations, the right for the meeting and manifestation, limit the cultural ceremony, education, incentive private economy and the right for the resistance.
These measures are implemented in order to avoid the risk for the further spreads of the virus.
The Government also imposed Isolation Zone and Home mandatory Confinement in the municipalities of Baucau and Viqueque to avoid the illness passes from person-to-person.
Thus with the Government’s implementation of the State of Emergency, it can limit movement, which is a good way to impede the virus from spreading.
