Timor-Leste reports first death of coronavirus in the country

DILI, april 6, 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste reported one first new death from the coronavirus today (Tue, april 5), said the CIGC Coordinator.

The CIGIC Coordinator Niltor do Carmo da Silva said, a woman is 44-year-old who has also been suffered from the Kidney failure, and was diagnosed with covid-19 on march 24, however she started having symptoms on april 4 and was transferred to Vera Cruz Isolation Center.

“The patient was in a serious condition and suffered from chronic renal failure. The health team carried out the treatment according to their health status, but, at about 7 am today, she died. Thus, we registered a case of death with the comorbidity of chronic renal failure”, Mr Silva said at Lahane, Dili.

According to Mr Silva, the body of the deceased will be treated like that of a covid-19 patient.

“The health team will hand over the body to the MSSI [Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion], and then be transported to the designated place for covid-19 in Metinaro,” he said.

The doctor also explained that, in addition to kidney problems, the patient suffered from hypertension.

“We will help the husband and son to follow the funeral process and return to the isolation center,” she said.

Timor-Leste currently has 472 active cases of covid-19 and 765 infections since the emergence of the new coronavirus.
