COVID-19: Timor-Leste CIGC reports 148 new cases, one death and 35 recoveries

DILI, 22 April 2021 (TATOLI)—Timor-Leste on Thursday confirmed 148 new COVID-19 cases, one more fatality in the past 24 hours, and 35 recoveries. the country’s COVID-19 Crisis Center said in a statement.

Of the new cases, 118 were found in the capital Dili, 30 in municipalities. four in Baucau municipality, 26 in Manufahi municipality, thus the country total active cases rose to 1.657.

The Coordinator of the COVID-19 Crisis Center (CIGC), Rui de Araújo said, between the new cases 79 were male and 69 were female with seven were present with symptoms and the rest were asymptomatic.

A new deceased patient is a 60-year-old man residing in Dili. She was confirmed positive by the Authority on April 19, 2021, at the National Hospital Guido Valadares (HNGV)

Mr.Araújo explained the deceased has experienced a severe disease including diabetes for almost one week before she was transferred to the National Hospital.

“The diagnosis at the HNGV Emergency Unit was an acute respiratory failure syndrome. Because it tested positive for SARS-Cov-2, the joint health team transferred the patient to the Vera Cruz isolation center for treatment according to the medical protocol adopted in Timor-Leste, which included assisted ventilation through CPAP ”, He explained.

Mr. Araújo also recalled that today, around 8:25 am, the patient ended up dying. The result of the post-mortem test to covid-19 remains positive, with viral load N2 Gene 33; And Gene 35G

CIGC Spokesperson renewed his calls on people to strictly follow heath safety guidelines after the country imposed a one-month lockdown in Dili and its municipality on April 7-2 May.

Since the start of the pandemic on March 21, the country has logged a total of 1.657 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 3 deaths, the MoH said, adding that there are currently 862 active cases in the country.

Timor-Leste began a COVID-19 inoculation drive on April 7. As of Monday, more than 5000 out of the country’s 13.000 front lines workers had been vaccinated against the virus, following the Ministry of Health reports.
