Timor-Leste reports 48 new COVID-19 cases and one more death

DILI, may 2, 2021 (TATOLI) –Timor-Leste on Sunday, reports one new death from COVID-19, the country’s Covid-19 crisis Center said in a statement.

Following the Statement released from the CIGC Coordinator, Rui de Araújo, the latest deceased patient was a Timorese- man, aged 28, and He was admitted, following a road accident, to the Emergency Department of Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV) on April 27 and was diagnosed with a serious head injury. The family took the patient home on the same day.

“It was a case of surgery that was due to an accident and serious head injury to whom SARS-CoV-2 was detected. Today, May 2, around 7:29 am, he died,” Araújo said

According to Araújo, the patient returned to the Emergency Department on April 29 with a reduced level of consciousness. The CT scan showed an axonal lesion and cerebral edema.

“It resulted from trauma following an accident. The PCR test result was positive. Postmortem PCR was also positive for covid-19”, he explained.

The official also recalled that, since April 29, the patient had been hospitalized in Vera Cruz to prevent the risk of trasmission of covid-19 with other patients in the HNGV hospital.

The country also logged 48 new cases, pushing the national active cases to 1,260 with the total confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic is 2.444, the statement said, adding that the new infections included 46 in Dili and 2 in Baucau Municipality.

Regarding the cases detected today, Araújo said that, among the infections, 32 are men and 16 women. Fifteen or (31.2%), were detected following requests for traveling authorization.

Since yesterday, Dili National Health Laboratory (LNS) carried out 579 laboratory tests, 36 of which in the scope of sentinel surveillance, 87 of contact screening, 137 through random screening, 306 were performed through the requests for departure from the Municipality of Dili, four for international trips and nine in quarantines. While 257 tests were also carried out in the municipalities.

Meanwhile, the CIGC also reports 26 patients recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 1.183 it added.

Timor-Leste began an anti-COVID-19 inoculation drive on April 7. As of Saturday (01/05/021), about 28.678 out of the country’s 1,338,954 population had been vaccinated against the virus, following the report from the Ministry of Health.
