DILI, 23 june 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s National Police (PNTL) called on Timorese football fans to not make any noise and control themselves during the Euro Cup matches at night time.
Dili Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Henrique da Costa said preparation had been made to deploy officers in 10 crowded places in capital Dili to prevent any extreme actions committed by the football fans during the Euro Cup period.
“From today onwards, at around 4:00 pm, police will carry out checkpoints in 10 identified spots across capital Dili to ensure football fans obey the traffic rules,” said Costa.
Costa called on football fans to respect the rights of others to not make any noise during the night when neighbors were sleeping.
“As football fans, you know, the motorcycle noise is really disrupting other people’s sleeping at night time,” Costa said.
Costa also called on the football fans to respect the flag of other countries, saying it was the national symbol and deserved respect from everyone.
He said for those football fans that breach the traffic rules, their motorbikes would be seized by PNTL.
Santos said in the past matches of the Euro Cup, some houses were destroyed due to the conflict between football fans, saying, therefore, an intensive police patrol would be carried out during the Euro Cup period to prevent fans from attacking each other.
He added PNTL had identified three suspects who were involved in the previous conflict between football fans following the Germany-Portugal match on june 20.
