DILI, 23 june 2021 (TATOLI)– Xanana Reading Room (XRR) launched writing competition in local language for Timorese young people and this activities it is aimed to promote Timorese dialects and increasing the interest of readers in Timor-Leste.
The writing competition activity was participated in by more than 50 and Xanana Reading room initiated for Mambae dialect. This writing competition is to promote the identity of Timorese young people in the country and even to the other countries, The Manager of the Xanana Reading Library, Gaspar Freitas, told to TATOLI Agency at Xanana Reading room, in Bidau Lecidere, this wednesday
“We also have created literature books in our local language and we launched a book in Mambae dialect in last year. Many young people participated in the competition,” He said
It is important that we continue to promote the Timorese local language so that we cannot have its extinction,” He said
The Xanana Reading room, Manager underlined that despite the many criticisms and different opinions of the public, the library has the function of preserving for the timorese mother tongues languages.
Freitas mentioned that dialect writing can help people to learn new languages, as it has its translation into other languages.
The manager said that the Xanana Reading Center has produced five serial books and twice in Portuguese and English, and those books with the titles the Liberdade Naroman, memoria 99 and Mambae dialect.
“We have a commitment to continue producing books written by Timorese people. The Timorese National lider Xanana Gusmão also wrote his book and offered to Xanana Reading room to share with young people”. He said.
Freitas said that the center is also going to produce a book on the fixation of children and will launch it shortly.
He stressed that Xanana Reading room had carried out the exhibition activities with some Xanana Gusmão pictures for fund raise in 2016 and 2018. Many OF local companies bought the paintings, sweaters and books. We obtained funds from this medium to ensure ourselves”, he concluded.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) provided financial support to ensure the implementation of Xanana reading room activities.
