DILI, 28 june (TATOLI)- Minister of Higher Education, Arts and Culture (MHAC), Longuinhos dos Santos, said Timor-Leste had been independent since 20 years ago but the uniformed curriculum had not yet been implemented in Timor-Leste.

Therefore, MHAC conducted research in all universities, both state universities and private universities in 2020 ago and today presented it to all rectors to conduct joint elaboration on the minimum curriculum.

“The purpose of this seminar is with the theme “Curriculum for Higher Education in Timor-Leste” with the essence of being able to contribute and how to face challenges to quality training to see a minimum curriculum,” said Santos to Journalist TATOLI News Agency in INFORDEP, Balide on monday.

He explained that this minimum curriculum is a program from MHAC, therefore all data have been elaborated in 2020, regarding how the teaching mechanism is to be implemented to all colleges and all universities with the aim of teaching a uniformed curriculum.

In the same place, the Vice rector of the University of Dili (UNDIL), Angelina Soares, said that UNDIL welcomed the plan to implement a uniformed curriculum nationally because until now private and public universities have taught material according to their own wishes because previously there has been no uniform teaching curriculum so far.

“The plan to implement a uniform teaching curriculum would be very crucial because a country must have a globally uniform curriculum so that graduates can compete for work and research in other countries, and can also be accepted,” said Soares.

Soares said UNDIL will work closely with MHAC so that the writing of the uniformed curriculum is immediately implemented to all universities, so that MHAC can control it well because so far some universities still use the Indonesian language to teach students based on the respective University guidelines.

This seminar was attended by all rectors at various universities in Timor-Leste.
