WVTL coordinates with relevant entities to conclude the child protection draft laws

DILI, 28 june 2021 (TATOLI)-World Vision Timor-Leste (WVTL) in coordination with some relevant institutions to conclude the child protection draft laws and introduced it to the National Parliament of Timor-Leste for approval.

WVTL Advocacy and External Engagement manager, Antonio do Rosario said that last week Advocacy teams composed of World Vision, Child Protection Commission and Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion held a meeting discussing the Child Protection draft laws. The draft laws have been provided by the MSSI and will submit to the National Parliament to be approved.

The Timor-Leste government through MSSI and other relevant entities are working to provide the availability of Child Protection laws in Timor-Leste. The child protection draft laws are almost finished for discussion and still for review before being sent to the National Parliament.

“I thanked the government of Timor-Leste through Minister Social, Solidarity and Inclusion on Good Corporation for concluding this draft law. All relevant entities fully support the advocacy of child protection laws,” WVTL Advocacy and External Engagement manager, Antonio do Rosario told to TATOLI Agency at the World Vision office at Bidau, this Monday.

Mr Rosario revealed that the child protection draft laws will be appropriate with the Timor-Leste situation, and will be beneficial for the children in Timor-Leste.  The child protection laws will be approved to protect children from any forms of violence against children in Timor-Leste.

He stressed that parents should be prohibited to commit any kind of forms of violence against children, protect children from child labor issue and to avoid any action that caused harmful for the children physically and mentality in their households.

The child protection laws will ensure the freedom of a child to participate in education. The parents must be aware of the child right and allow children to be free to benefit for the child development period.

The World Vision TL and advocacy relevant entities are focused on good creation of child protection draft laws, however It is needed the involvement of all relevant parts. WVTL always supports all government programs to provide good conditions for children of Timor-Leste.

He calls parents and all communities to respect children’s right to access education, health, nutritive foods and for all parts that they deserve. WVTL exists in Timor-Leste to enhance community knowledge for providing good situations to the children in Timor-Leste.
