COVID-19: Timor-Leste specially approves purchase of Pfizer vaccines

DILI, 14 july  2021 (TATOLI) – The Timorese government decided today to start the process of purchasing Pfizer vaccines against COVID-19 to vaccinate a population, but especially aimed at young people between 12 and 17, announced the executive.

“To guarantee the vaccination of the entire population, especially young people aged between 12 and 17 years, the Council of Ministers guided the Ministry of Health to start the process of purchasing Pfizer and transport vaccines”, informs the executive in a statement, that journalist of TATOLI News Agency access on wednesday.

The Government has not revealed quantities or timetable for purchasing the vaccines, as they are currently being used in the country as AstraZeneca and Sinovac vaccines.

At today’s meeting, the Council of Ministers also approved a “new vaccination strategy against a covid-19 for each municipality, which involves mobilizing the maximum resources for vaccination in each municipality, according to a risk, until reaching all municipalities in the country.

After hearing a presentation from the Situation room of the Integrated Crisis Management Center (CIGC), the Government decided to maintain a sanitary fence imposition in force in Dili for another 14 days, until 29 july.

Freedom of movement is maintained for people with two doses of vaccination and those under 6 years ia free to do the movement

It was also decided that “the integrated control centers for entry and exit in the Municipality of Dili now operate 24 hours a day and every day of the week.

Nationally, 235.117 people (31.1% of the population over 18 years old) have already received a first dose and 39.078 people (5.18%) have already completed the vaccination.

In the Municipality of Dili, a first dose of the vaccine has already been administered to about 55.2% of the population over 18 years of age and they already have two doses of about 12.52%.

Timor-Leste currently has 901 active cases across the country, with cases of infection in all municipalities except Liquiça and Manufahi, with 9.906 cases and 25 deaths recorded since the start of the pandemic.
