COVID-19 update: Timor-Leste registers 54 new cases, 45 recoveries and active cases at 726

DILI, 21 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, records 54 new cases of COVID-19, with 45 recoveries, and the active cases were 726.

Of the new cases, 40 cases were detected in capital Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including seven cases in Ermera, five in Baucau, and one each in Bobonaro and Viqueque municipality.

Four cases of Delta

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo informed that of the 726 cases, including four cases of Delta variant cases of the SARS-CoV-2 that had been identified on july 14.

“Of the 300 samples of the COVID-19 cases sending for further test in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and immunity, in Melbourne, Australia, indicated that four cases of Delta variant were identified.

Araújo said that the four patients entered Timor-Leste from Indonesia, on june 26, saying one had been fully recovered, while three others are still remained isolated: “So far, we haven’t had any evidence of local transmission of the Delta Variant in the country”.

The spokesperson of CIGC, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said that of the 54 new cases, 24 percent were symptomatic.

He said of today’s cases, 51 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including two children under 12 and an elderly person over 60. These new cases are made up of 29 men and 25 women.

Araujo informed that 13 patients were under intensive treatment at Vera Cruz Isolation Center, where two patients were in critical condition.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 742 PCR tests, including 22 sentinel surveillance tests, 10 through contact tracing, 36 via random screening, 542 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, 38 for the international travel authorization, and 112 in quarantines.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 2.5 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 6.4, Viqueque 5.1 and Baucau 2.7.

The CIGC reiterated its call on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus in the country despite the ICGC’s records showing a slight drop in cases over the past week in the capital Dili and some municipalities.

There has been a total of 10.281 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 9.529 recoveries, active cases were 726 and 26 deaths, according to data of the Ministry of Health.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 262.933 (34.8%) had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  Of the number, around 74.918 (9.9%) have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
