DILI, 24 july 2021 (TATOLI) –Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, the actual Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, individually, provides 50 sacks of rice to the Blind Association of Timor-Leste (AHDMTL).
Magalhães informed that the 50 sacks of rice were given to AHDMTL as individual support, saying previously, 50 sacks of rice were also given to the Timor-Leste’s Blind Union in Becora Village.
“I am delighted with the initiative of the AHDMTL’ Executive Director. It is such a good example to help those who are in need during this difficult situation. This is individual support given to the AHDMTL to lessen the difficulties facing some of our fellows with disabilities,” said Magalhães.
The Executive Director of AHDMTL, Gaspar Afonso said the support given by Minister Magalhães as humanitarian support, which AHDMTL will distribute to people with disabilities in the Venilale administrative post, in Baucau municipality.
“We have provided humanitarian assistance, especially food to people with disabilities in capital Dili, and some other municipalities, including Liquica. Therefore, AHDMTL came up with the idea to provide the same support to the people with disabilities in the Maneiku and Maneulu villages in Venilale. AHDMTL planned to provide 50 sacks of rice to each of the two villages,” Afonso made the comment after receiving the support from Minister Magalhães, at AHDMTL’s office, in Dili, today.
He said apart from rice, AHDMTL will also gather other food items, including cooking oil and other basic necessities: “We will gather some more items of basic necessities from our fellow Timorese who want to help those in need during this difficult situation.”
“Once we gather all of the basic necessities, then within the month of august we will distribute the food and other basic necessities to our fellows with disabilities in Venilale,” said Afonso.

AHDMTL was established to protect and defend the right of people with vision impairment against any form of discrimination in the community.
“AHDMTL accumulate all people who are discriminated against in their families, communities, and society. AHDMTL will keep encouraging people with visual impairment, and running capacity building to improve their knowledge and skills,” Afonso added.
