The Birth of the Association of Southeast Asian Countries – ASEAN.

ASEAN was established on 8 of August 1967 in Bangkok, when the Five Founding fathers of ASEAN namely Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, The Philippines, and Singapore, joined hands to declare the birth of the Association of Southeast Asian Countries – ASEAN.

From time to time, ASEAN continues to grow and become stronger in the face of many challenges. Being such an important and relevant regional association for the region, Brunei Darussalam then joined on 7 January 1984, Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN.

The Share vision: for an ASEAN Community to be a concert of Southeast Asian nations, outward-looking, living in peace, stability and prosperity, bonded together in partnership in dynamic development and a community of caring societies.

The vision is eloquently echoed by the motto of ASEAN: “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.
