DILI, 18 august 2021 (TATOLI)- The Representative and Country Director of World Food Program (WFP) in Timor-Leste, Dageng Liu thanked the humanitarian heroes, humanitarian workers, frontline workers, and other humanitarian entities for their dedication to help those people in need.
“Leading up to the WHD, 19 august, we salute and honor the service and sacrifice of all humanitarian and health workers who put their lives on the line to save others, working tirelessly in the face of Covid-19 and climate crisis,” Dengeng Liu said during the interview with Tatoli at the WFP office.
“WFP will look forward to cooperating with the Secretary of State for Civil Protection (SEPC) and other relevant humanitarian entities to celebrate the day, probably next week,” added Liu.
He called humanitarian workers to keep up the good work in providing assistance to those in need, saying everybody is a humanitarian hero.

On 19 August 2003, a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, killed 22 humanitarian aid workers, including the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. Five years later, the General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 19 August as World Humanitarian Day (WHD).
