DILI, 18 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS), Armindo Maia informed that MEJD had decided to postpone the primary and high schools second examination in Capital Dili due to the recent spike of the Covid-19 cases.

“We have to decide to temporarily suspend the teaching and learning process of the primary and high schools across capital Dili from 17 to 31 August 2021. Therefore, the schools’ second examination also would be halted as well due to the increase of Covid-19 cases,” Maia made the comments after the regular meeting of the Council of Minister, at the Government Palace, on Wednesday.

He said the decision aimed to prevent the new variant of Covid-19 among students.

“We don’t want to again suspend the teaching and learning process, but the current circumstance is forcing us to decide to prevent the propagation of the Covid-19 between the students and families. We have a school in Dili, whose 50 students were tested positive for Covid-19, and I don’t want to mention the name of this school. Some schools had been resumed their teaching and learning process for a month. The prevention measures had been implemented well in this school, but these students have still contracted the virus, which could happen in other schools as well,” said Maia.

Maia said MEJD had distributed the summary of all school subjects to all students to keep them studying through distance learning.

“The resumption of the teaching and learning process will be depended on the decision and the permission of the Ministry of Health and the Integrated Crisis Management Center (SIJK),” said Maia.

The schools’ second examination has been scheduled to take place from 23 to 27 august.
