AUSMAT team starts work at Timor-Leste’s isolation centers

DILI, 09 september 2021 (TATOLI) – Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) started working at two of Timor-Leste’s isolation centers – Lahane and Vera Cruz Isolation Center to support the work of the Pillar 7 for the Management of Patients with Confirmed Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

“The team arrived yesterday and today are integrated with the Pillar 7 to providing essential health services to more Covid-19 patients,” General-Director of Health Services Delivery, Odete da Silva Viegas told reporters at the Ministry of Health (MoH), in Dili, today.

She said the AUSMAT team would provide essential health services during 28 days in the country, hoping that the team would give valuable experience to the Timorese medical workers during the period.

The team was made up of two doctors, one paramedic, two nurses, a logistician, a physician, and an epidemiologist.

Viegas called on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated, saying it is the only to way combat the Covid-19 in the country.

“I would like to encourage all residents in Dili to visit the nearest immunization centers to get vaccinated,” said Viegas.

She emphasized that after seeing Timor-Leste reported a further increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care centers recently, saying vaccination is the only way to prevent it.
