DILI, 19 september 2021 (TATOLI)-Telkomcel and Telemor telecommunication operators companies are committed to improving and enhancing network connectivity by obtaining Radio Frequency Spectrum Licenses.
Representative of the two telecommunication operators, CEO of Telkomcel, Yogi Rizkian Bahar, and CEO of Telemor, Tran Van Bang, thanked the government of Timor-Leste through the Ministry of Transport and Communications under the regulator ANC (National Communications Authority) for the granted a radio frequency spectrum license which will later assist operator services for its users.
“I would like to thank the MTC as well as ANC, for the mobile frequency spectrum that has been run out in last half a year ago. Most of the clients have complained about this issue. Telkomcel CEO, Yogi to reporters at ANC office in Caicoli, this Friday.
He explained that to obtain this license, each operator must follow a transparent and open process for the opening of a new frequency where the operator must pay for the fee with a commitment to continue investing in Timor-Leste’s telecommunications sector.
“This is proved that the operators are committed to investing in the telecommunication sector in TL. We hope to be able to improve internet connections. Thus, It is about the technique, we have to control for the system, especially it depends on whether the handset frequency is 2300 4G available. While it is possible and will automatically move. There are also old cellphones that are still on 1800 4G frequency. The operators are taken responsibility for the technical Process,” Said Yogi.
In addition, the CEO of Telemor, Tran Van Bang also added, During this pandemic period, the number of internet clients is increasing:” We are getting a lot of complaints on weak internet connectivity, we try to find a solution and with this spectrum, internet users, especially 4G users, should be fixed on this October. “
The Minister of Transport and Communication, José Agostinho da Silva emphasized that this spectrum license is to provide quality services and to answer complaints that have been made complaining of the internet weak connectivity with expensive costs.
“The response is provided now and hopes that with these users being provided there can be enough quality service from the two operators,” said José.
It is recalled that ANC started the NIA (Notice Inviting Applications) process in July 2020 and closed on 27 August this year, to answer the need for a new radio frequency spectrum for mobile services from operators to improve services and also increase state revenue.
Telkomcel operator gets a frequency band of 2300 Mhz which has an allocation of 20 Mhz with a duration of 15 years and a spectrum price of $2,637,982.50 in one payment. This spectrum license is only applied to the municipality of Dili and it is needed additional fee for the expanding to municipality level.
In a similar area, Telemor also gets a frequency rotation of 2600 Mhz which has an allocation of 60 Mhz with a duration of five years and a spectrum price of $791,394.76 for four payments, but in this case, Telemor only pays 50% of the original price so ANC applies an interest of $62.007.54 were for the total Telemor had to pay $853,403.30.
