Indonesia to provide a fund worth ten thousand dollars to eliminate brucellosis in Timor-Leste”

DILI, Sept 23, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Indonesian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Sahat Sitorus, said that his government has provided US$10,000 to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP) to eradicate brucellosis.

“The Indonesian Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, will provide a fund worth ten thousand dollars to eradicate brucellosis in Timor-Leste”, Ambassador Sahat Sitorus said.

Mr Sitorus stressed that, through this cooperation, Timor-Leste can develop the livestock sector and export cattle to Indonesia and ASEAN, thus stimulating the country’s economy.

It should be remembered that last June, the Indonesian Ministry of Fisheries, through the embassy in Timor-Leste, met with the Timorese Minister of Agriculture and the National Director of Livestock to discuss the continuity of cooperation in combating this disease until 2023.

Brucellosis as an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella, common to cattle, goats, pigs and dogs and transmitted by them to humans, through contact with sick animals or consumption of food products from contaminated animals. It causes, among other symptoms, fever, sweating, muscle pain and asthenia.
