World Tourism Day: MTKI runs painting competition

DILI, 27 september 2021 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Tourism, Trade, and Industry (MTKI), through the National Directorate for tourism enterprise, realized a painting competition to promote youth talent.

The National Director of Tourism Enterprise Julio Ximenes Ribeiro informed that the painting competition was realized to commemorate world tourism day, on september 27, which Timor-Leste celebrates every year.

“Our young people have talent; however, so far we haven’t considered it in our priorities. Therefore, this painting competition would encourage our young people to initiate and show their creativity,” Ribeiro told reporters after the opening ceremony of the painting competition at the Tourist Information Center, in Dili, on sunday.

MTKI realized the painting competition to celebrate World Tourism Day with the theme: ‘Promoting Tourism Brand through Painting’.

Ten groups of painting artists took part in the competition, including Gembel, Arte Furak, Arte Uma Lalatak, Mafirma, etc.

The first-place prize of the competition is US$ 3000, the second-place is US$ 2000 and the third place is US$ 1500.

MTKI planned to allocate money to continue organizing the painting competition in 2022 and onwards.

“We will extend this kind of painting competition to other municipalities to bring the top 10 groups of painting artists from the municipalities to compete in Dili,” said Ribeiro.
