DILI, 07 january 2022 (TATOLI)– The Director-General of the Timor-Leste Department of Criminal Registry and Notaries (DRCNTL), Victor da Costa Neto, urges all foreign entrepreneurs to have a Criminal Records Certificate from Timor-Leste’s Ministry of Justice when conducting their business in Timor-Leste.

“A foreign businessman must have a Criminal Record to show that the person is free from criminalization and also easy to control the movement of his activities,”Neto told Tatoli at his office Mandarin, Dili today.

According to Neto, currently, most foreign businesses in Timor-Leste have their Criminal Certificates, the validity period of the certificate is six months: “From January to December 2021 DRCNTL has issued around 4.278 Criminal Certificates from foreign nationals in Timor-Leste,”

Neto says the purpose of criminal history can be used by potential employers, lenders, and others to assess a person’s trustworthiness.

A criminal record is a record that is known to have been arrested in the past for committing a crime, therefore before carrying out any activity in a country, a criminal record certification is first held to show that citizenship is free from any crime.
