DILI, 15 february 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Timorese Republic, Francisco Guterres “Lú Olo”, today swore in Brigadier General Calisto dos Santos ‘ Coliati’ as Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces and to Commodore Donaciano Costa Gomes Pedro ‘Klamar Fuik’ as Chief of Staff of FALINTIL-Força de Defesa de Timor-Leste (F-FDTL).

The President of the Timorese Republic, Francisco Guterres “Lú Olo”, said, within the scope of the inauguration, that Major General Calisto Santos assumes the second highest position in the military hierarchy.

According to the Head of State, he is the main direct collaborator in military advice to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (CEMGFA).

“He is a prestigious officer and holder of a considerable record of services rendered to the military institution. We know its attributes and the determination with which it carries out the missions entrusted to it. Therefore, we believe that he is an officer suitable for the high position of Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces”, highlighted by the Head of State, at the Presidential Palace, in Bairro Pité, Dili.

With regard to Commodore Pedro Klamar Fuik, the President stressed that he is a highly regarded officer with recognized intellectual and professional qualities suitable for occupying the position in the direction of the Joint Coordinating General Staff.

“The current world context, in a permanent process of change, demands that the military hierarchy be permanently prepared to act and lead in any circumstance”, he said.

“My last words are of confidence addressed to the Armed Forces, in their role as an essential institution of the Republic, in their professional capacity that they have shown constantly, in their reformist spirit and in their awareness of the demands of modernity”, he said.

The Head of State also congratulated the sworn in and wished them the greatest success in carrying out their new tasks.

The Deputy Chief of General Staff, Coliati, thanked Lú Olo for the trust placed in him to exercise the new position of the F-FDTL.

“I am proud to take on this role. It is then up to me to start the transition phase in the structure of the F-FDTL commands, which represents a passage from the oldest to the newest generation”, he said.

The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Commodore Pedro Klamar Fuik, also thanked the Head of State and the Government for the trust placed in him.

“I am grateful for the vote of confidence that was given to me to assume the position of Chief of Staff of the F-FDTL. It is a role of great responsibility, as an immediate collaborator of the Chief of Staff General of the Forces”, he said.

Calisto dos Santos ‘Coliati’, 62, was born in the village of Darulete, in the municipality of Liquiçá. He has extensive experience as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, in addition to having held the position of Defense Attaché of Timor-Leste in Australia between 2014 and 2018.

Commodore Pedro Klamar Fuik, 53, born in Hatulia village, from the Municipality of Ermera, assumed the position of Director of the Institute of National Defense of Timor-Leste for ten years and collaborated closely in the Naval Component, between 2008 and 2011.
