DILI, 21 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The Embassy of Japan in Timor-Leste provides 3.000.000 USD and is Administered by Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Minister of Agriculture and Fishery to support Timorese coffee intensification.
The main purpose of this program is to help the coffee farmers improve coffee products and increase its quality and promote it to market.
The National Director of Coffee and Plants Industry, Donato Salsinha Menezes said to respond to the Development Sustainable Objective (ODS) on intensified Timorese coffee production, the Government of Timor-Leste is in coordination with ADB to provide coffee management
“Minister of Agriculture and Fishery through the National Coffee and Plants Industry department is an optimist to reach a double number of coffee during ten years since 2020 to 2030.” The National Director of Coffee and Plants Industry, Donato Salsinha Menezes told TATOLI Agency, in his office, Caicoli, this monday.
He added that MAF has a target to reach the duple toms of coffee in 2030. It is required to achieve 140.000 tons of coffee in ten years.
MAP has focused on benefit targets for 20.000 households in six municipalities composed of Ermera, Aileu, Liquiça, Ainar, Manufahi, and Bobonaro.
MAF expects the 20.000 coffee farmers to have capacity on the method of coffee intensification. Farmers can have enough knowledge of coffee quality and even be able to access the right coffee market to gains revenue.
Mr. Menzes said the target is required to intensify the duple coffee production and reach the target of 140.000 tons in ten years. It is known that MAP produces 70.000 tons every ten years.
Timorese coffee is well known with organic coffee however it is more required for ensuring on coffee product treat to get the high quality.
Currently, the Minister of Agriculture and Fishery is cooperating with two main coffee companies in Timor-Leste as Coffee Timor Cooperative (CCT) and Coffee Timor Association (ACT).
The program is financed by the Japanese government for three million USD. The government of Timor-Leste also provided the financial amount of 200.000 USD. The total is 3.200.000 USD.
This project will be implemented for four years and begin in january 2022.
