Ramos Horta and Lú Olo advance to second round of vote

DILI, 29 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Court of Appeal (TR), Deolindo dos Santos, announced that the two most voted candidates, José Ramos Horta and Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’, advance to the second round.

Deolindo also stressed that the Court’s judges analyzed the minutes and other documents submitted by the National Elections Commission (CNE).

According to the judgment of the TR, “the Panel of Judges finds nothing likely to affect the regularity of the vote or influence the result obtained”, thus confirming that the calculation made by the CNE is correct.

“In accordance with the provisional result of the national tabulation, and taking into account numbers 3 and 4 of article 76 of the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and numbers 2 and 3 of article 11 of Law 7/2006, December 28”, there will be a second round with the two candidates with the most votes, José Ramos Horta and Francisco Guterres Lú Olo.

According to the president, the Court’s ruling was signed by judges Jacinta Correia da Costa and Duarte Tilman Soares.

The president also recalled that the first vote for the presidential elections took place on march 19, 2022.

Deolindo dos Santos also revealed that the TR will hold, tomorrow, around 3:30 pm, the staggering draw of the two candidates for the second round.

It is recalled that, according to the decision of the Court of Appeal, 651,859 votes were validated, 3,743 white votes, 8,386 null votes and 65 rejected votes were identified.
