DILI, 28 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan ruak during his meeting with the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lu OLo’, said President expressed his concerns about the higher cost of goods in Timor-Leste.

“Today I met with President Lu Olo and during the meeting, the Head of State expressed his concern about the recent rising costs of necessities in the country, especially increasing the cost of food commodities,” Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak commented after meeting with the President of the Republic. , at the Presidential Palace.

Ruak stressed that to solve the rising price of imported food, the communities needed to consume locally grown food to reduce Timor-Leste’s dependency on imported food from other countries.

“The government needs to take an urgent measure before the situation is getting worse,” he said.

Currently The price of rice (30 kg) rose from US$15 to US$17 while the price of rice (25 kg) rose from US$10 to US$14 in recent weeks, making it difficult for many communities to afford it. Meanwhile, the price of the cooking oil (5 litter) increased from US$ 5.00 to US$ 8.50. and 2 litter of cooking oil increased from US$2.50 to US$4.50.

In addition, the price of gasoline and diesel had also risen recently from US$1.08 to US$1.35 per litter over the past weeks.

At the meeting, Lu Olo, and Ruak also discussed the preparation for the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony on May 19.
