MHESC develops a new decree-law to support Timorese student’s study in China

DILI, 07 june 2022 (TATOLI)— The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture (MHESC) develops a new government decree to pave the way for Timorese students to return to Chine for their studies.

Speaking to Tatoli, The Minister of Higher Education of Timor-Leste, Longuinhos dos Santos said, he has met with the ambassador of Timor-Leste to China and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste, to discuss the issues.

At the discussion, two possibilities have been accomplished including the Chinese government allowing TL students to return to continue their education in China and also the reviewing of all mobilization processes.

“The government should take responsibility for the ticket and quarantine fee. We have a covid-19 fund based on the government’s decree’s law. however it is not functioning well,” He explained

Thus, MHESC creates a new decree, especially focusing on students studying in China. The decree-laws will be introduced by MHESC to the Council of Ministers before approval.

“We have developed a new decree-law to ensure a specific process for TL students to return to China. The MHESC’s team is working on the laws and decrees to facilitate them,” he said.

So far 126 students have submitted their applications to MHESC but the numbers continued to increase to 200 from 126 according to the recent data, a total number of 200 students including new scholarship students this year.
