Over 150 Timorese participants joined Global Leadership Summit

DILI, 8 june 2022 (TATOLI)- Over 150 participants from various institutions in Timor-Leste joined the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) organized by World Vision in Timor-Leste, which aims to share leadership knowledge with the people of Timor-Leste.

WVTL National Director Migena Shilla said participants would become aware of the leadership experience as many leaders would share their leadership experiences during the event.

“These 150 people will benefit from this program since leaders around the world with different backgrounds share their knowledge and experiences about leadership during the event,” he said.

Concerning events and the title of the event reminds us that leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards the achievement of a common goal.

Therefore Migena Shilla, Director of World Vision in Timor-Leste considers a leader to be patient, confident, and maintain good relations with others, but the most peculiar thing about a true leader is someone who is not afraid to make decisions, accept and respect people’s opinions.

“A person who carries a leadership attitude will be considered a leader,” She said.

Meanwhile, MSSI Deputy Minister, Signi Chandrawati Verdial, said that leadership can be built from family and everyone has the potential to become a leader.

“Leadership is carried out in one’s life through his or her everyday activities and everyone has a responsibility to do their activities. If someone has the responsibility to lead an activity, then he is a leader,” MSSI Deputy Minister Signi Chandrawati Verdial explained.

At the same event, Olinda Maria De Oliveira, one of the participants of the GLS event, said she has captivated by several positive points about leadership during the event.

Oliveira said, after hearing all of the experiences, that she realized that to be a leader one must fulfill three important attitudes, namely positive thinking, polite conversation, and a good attitude.

“I learned that a leader needs to have this important attitude to earn the trust of his members,”

So far, the Global Leadership Summit (GLS) was attended by government agencies, students, NGOs, health workers, and others participants.

The event was funded by World Vision Timor-Leste, with fundraising activities for film production and private donations.
