DILI, 02 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta requested the Association of the Chinese Business Community (CCCA) in Timor-Leste to provide emergency relief to assist the flood victims and early recovery in three municipalities – Covalima, Viqueque, and Lautem.
The President of CCCA in Timor-Leste, Kathleheen Goncalves said President Horta appealed in a meeting with CCCA at the Presidential Palace, requesting CCCA to provide humanitarian aid, especially for flood victims.
He said President’s Office teams will be deployed directly to the municipalities to observe the condition of the flood victims as well as register the flood-affected families.
Emergency relief is required to support those in need, including food such as rice, noodles, cooking oil, canned fish, etc.
So far, more than 170 households have been registered as flood victims, following the storm and heavy rain from 29 to 30 June.
In Covalima municipality, 118 prisoners were evacuated to Kay Xanana Gusmão’s airport after the Covalima State Prison was flooded.
