DILI, 15 july 2022 (TATOLI)– Taiwanese International Cooperation Company  supports Bee Timor-Leste (BTL) to improve water resources management in Timor-Leste.

This support was provided through an agreement signed today between the President of Bee Timor-Leste, Carlos Peloi Dos Reis, and the Chairman of the Taiwanese international company GT, Paul Hsu, witnessed by the Minister of Public Works, Abel Pires.

Minister of Public Works, Abel Pires, said the agreement was aimed at starting discussions between the two sides on the issue of clean water management in Timor-Leste.

“Since water is very important for the life of human beings, therefore, good management and cooperation are needed to find solutions to water problems in Timor-Leste, we hope that the collaboration between BTL and GT company will provide the solutions to water problems” Pires said in his remarks during the signing of the agreement, held at the Ministry of Public Works, in Caicoli, this Friday.

The President of BTL, Carlos Peloi Dos Reis said the two sides would further discuss how to ensure the water supply for the people.

“Our discussion will focus on managing clean water and providing water dams to collect rainwater to be irrigated into the fields while conserving and distilling water from the rain before it is distributed to the community, therefore we need help from Taiwanese companies to provide water management supply” Reis told the media after the agreement.

The Chairman of the GT Company, Paul Hsu said their company has experience in conserving and managing the water in Taiwan to ensure water from the rain won’t flow into the sea: “Timor-Leste is a small country that needs to conserve and manage water very well to avoid it flowing into the sea, therefore we will help Timor-Leste to conserve and manage water from rain to be used for agriculture and other needs,”

“We hope to describe the specifics of the project items, finances, and the place of implementation of the project very sooner,” he said.
