PR Horta embarks on visit to Indonesia

DILI, 18 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta flew to Indonesia on monday on a one-week official visit, his first overseas trip since assuming office.

Horta and his delegation left Dili’s International Airport on the Indonesian passenger carrier Citilink for Denpasar Indonesia at around 1.57 pm local time.

The official visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties with Indonesia, the one and only Timor-Leste’s closest neighbor.

Horta was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Pedro dos Reis, Minister of Transport and Communications, José Agostinho da Silva, Minister of Tourism, Trade, and Industry, José Lucas do Carmo da Silva, MP Olinda Guterres, MP Mariano Assanami Sabino, MP Nelia Menezes, MP Patrocinio Fernandes, representatives of Civil Societies and journalists.

President Horta is set to meet his Indonesian counterpart, Joko Widodo, in Jakarta, the Capital of Indonesia, where bilateral ties will be discussed at length.

Horta will also meet the former President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), KH Yahya Cholil Staquf and Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dato Lim Jock Hoi.

In addition, during the visit, Horta will be a keynote speaker at three Universities and will have exclusive interviews with Metro TV, and Kompas TV.

President Horta and the team will return to Timor-Leste on july 25 via West Timor, Kupang Indonesia.
