UNDP Helps TL to build new buildings for STAE in three municipalities

DILI, September 5, 2022 (TATOLI) – The Director General of the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), Acilino Branco, said that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will build three new buildings in Covalima, Manatuto, and Viqueque municipalities.

“The biggest support from partners focuses on infrastructure. The UNDP has opened a bidding construction for three new houses in three municipalities,’’ Branco told Tatoli in Caicoli Dili.

He added that the tender for the construction of the building is currently in the process of selection of the documents.

The Branco said that the UNDP is committed to supporting Timor-Leste through STAE in building its office in the country.

The Project Manager of UNDP CORE-TL, Tito Filipe, said that “the project has a budget for new construction of $ 1.2 million in the municipalities of Covalima, Manatuto, and Viqueque. And the rehabilitation has a value of US$ 180 thousand for the municipalities of Aileu, Ainaro, Bobonaro, Dili, Baucau, Liquiçá, and Lautém.

So far Government of Japan, through the UNDP, had made available four million US dollars to support the last elections and assist in the construction of the buildings for STAE and CNE.

Acilino Branco said that in addition, the development partners also continue supporting Timor-Leste’s Government by providing civic education for students and all citizens about the right to vote in presidential and parliamentary elections.
