Timor-Leste extends heartfelt condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth II

DILI, 09 september 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste extended heartfelt condolences over the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Timorese Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, on behalf of the Government and the Timorese people, extended his deepest condolences to the royal family and the Government, and the people of the UK.

Ruak said Her Majesty’s legacy will remain forever in the memory of everyone around the world.

The spokesperson of the VIII Constitutional Government, Minister Fidelis Magalhães also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the royal family, as well as to the Government and the people of the UK.

“It was with deep sadness that Timor-Leste received the news of the death of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on thursday afternoon, aged 96, at her home in Scotland,” Magalhães said in a statement.

The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, and Timor-Leste’s Charismatic Leader Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão also expressed their profound sadness at the death of the British monarch.

In 2003, Timor-Leste’s Charismatic Leader, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão was awarded the Honorary Knighthood of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael & St. George, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II’s death was announced online by the royal family, saying she died peacefully.

Tributes have been paid across the world, following her death. While many commonwealth countries ordered flags to be flown to half-staff until the queen’s funeral.

Her eldest son, Charles, is elevated to the throne, as King Charles III following her death.

Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born april 21, 1926. She was elevated to the throne as Queen of the UK on june 2, 1953, following the death of King George VI.
