DILI, 22 september 2022 (TATOLI) – Cooperativa Café Timor (CCT) announced several commercial activities that are commonly implemented one of which is the export of local products abroad.
CCT President Mário Soares said according to the latest data, the cooperative exported more than three tons of vanilla and 18 tons of cloves to Indonesia.
“We buy 20 tons of vanilla to ripen it, but for now we only export about three tons to Indonesia. We also export 200 kilograms of cocoa to Australia,” Soares told Tatoli in Bidau-Lecidere.
He also stated that there was demand in the international market for the product concern, but Timor-Leste was not producing enough to meet the target demand.
Especially for the two products, Soares said, more products can be exported to increase the number of local products exported abroad if there are more local productions, adding that in this case two types of coffee, Arabica and Robusta, are also the most demanded products in the international market which need to increase the quantity.
“Farmers have started planting cocoa and cloves. We hope Timor-Leste can produce more to export more of this product”, he said.
According to Soares, Timor-Leste has the potential to produce higher quality products, and if the country can achieve this, there will be more products to be exported.
Meanwhile, according to the latest data, between January and August, Timor-Leste exported around 92,000 tons of Arabica and Robusta coffee to 11 countries.
For 2021, Cooperativa Café Timor exports 2,805 tonnes of Arabica coffee to Australia, Canada, the United States, and New Zealand.
PARC Interpeople Cooperation (PARCIC) of the International Japanese Organization, in the same period, exported 90 tons of Arabica coffee and 21 Robusta to Japan.
