The modern economy program will be directly supported by Billionaire and the founder of the Open Society Foundation (OSF), George Soros, and his son Alex Soros in the United States, the support will be focused on the modern study to assist Timor-Leste’s development.
“George Soros wishes to support Timor-Leste going forward, I requested their help to produce a document as a guide for the renovation of Timor-Leste’s economy, I wish to launch the program in 2023 together with the National Leader, Xanana Gusmão, and all political parties in parliament to notice how the country will be developed,” Horta said in New York.
Previously, Horta had held a meeting with Representatives of the Open Society Foundation, George Soros’ team in Dili to discuss Timor-Leste’s development program.
Timor-Leste must move forward with the best infrastructure development process, modern economy, and technology because this program takes part in digitizing the economic development of Timor-Leste.
The economic modernization program will be implemented following the 2011-2030 National Development Strategic Plan that has been set by the previous government and disseminated to all people. But Horta said the file would be studied further.
“We must review the National Strategic Plan carefully, whether the plan is still valid, and how many programs or plans have been implemented by the Government in the last ten years,”
To renovate Timor-Leste’s economy, Horta said, his side will cooperate with the Government of Timor-Leste to maintain Timor-Leste’s politic of bringing the pipeline to Timor-Leste.
“Bringing the pipeline to Timor-Leste is the only political option Timor-Leste has,” said Horta.
To keep the politic of bringing the pipeline to Timor-Leste, Horta said, Timor-Leste’s National Leader, Xanana Gusmão, also had a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in New York to reaffirm Timor-Leste’s position.
