PR Horta and Narodom Sihamoni discuss the economy and commercial relations


DILI, 20 october 2022 (TATOLI)—The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, on wednesday met with the King of Cambodia, Narodom Sihamonia to discuss the economy and commercial relations of the two countries.

“The Kingdom of Cambodia is a very old Kingdom, its history of struggle and fight is the same as ours, therefore they are very sympathetic. Today I spoke with the King as an artist. Today it is a step of the diplomacy with Cambodia within 20 years,” PR Horta stated in a statement issued by the office of the President. 

Timor-Leste registered a great advance in diplomatic relations, but there it requires to focus on the commercial and economic areas. 

“Ministry of Economy, Commerce, and Industry sense how Timor-Leste imports rice from Cambodia, it can be a little bit expensive but it has a good quality and it guarantees the alternative provision because sometimes when there is a big crisis, Vietnam unable to export the rice to Timor-Leste, therefore Timor-Leste should diversify the countries that import the rice,” said Horta. 

In turn, Horta also invited the King of Cambodia, His Majesty Narodom Sihamonia to visit Timor-Leste.

“We also attempt to have the investment with the national and international private sector based in Cambodia, the investments focus on agriculture and tourism in Timor-Leste. Prime Minister Hun Sen has visited Timor-Leste, and today I invited His Majesty, the Royal King to visit Timor-Leste and he welcome the invitation,” said Horta. 

Timor-Leste and Cambodia will sign an air service agreement to enable the flight operation Phnom Penh- Dili to facilitate the travel of the Chinese to Timor-Leste, saying that Geographycaly Cambodia is a closed country to China.

At the meeting both leaders also discussed the accession to ASEAM, saying Cambodia supports Timor-Leste’s accession to the regional organization in 2023.

Horta was delighted with the visit reception from the Airport to the Hotel.

According to the agenda, Horta was set to meet with the Cambodian Senate, Military Entities, Private Sectors, and High-Level Entities.
