WFP informs its commitment to supporting nutrition and food security in TL
DILI, 25 october 2022 (TATOLI)– Representative Country Director of the World Food Program in Timor-Leste (WFP), Alba Cecilia Garzon Olivares, met with the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak to inform his commitment to support nutrition and food security in Timor-Leste.
“We met Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to inform WFP’s commitment to supporting Timor-Leste in the nutrition and food security sector in Timor-Leste. We also talked about the state budget which should be prioritized in important areas to benefit the country to improve nutrition and food security,” said Alba Cecilia Garzon Olivares at the Government Palace, Monday.
In his new mandate, Alba Cecilia said he will concentrate on nutrition and food security saying that the program will align with the Government’s agenda.
“We are willing to support the government of Timor Leste by implementing this program from 2023 to 2025,”
The WFP program will focus on nutrition and food security aimed at combating malnutrition in Timor-Leste. Therefore, the technical department does not ensure the determination of the amount of the state budget allocation for nutrition and food security in all national regions.
So far, WFP has supported nutritious food for pregnant women in six municipalities such as Baucau, Covalima, Ermera, Dili, Manatuto, and Manufahi.
The food items include 1,594 tons of rice, 213 tons of peanuts, and 106 packs of cooking oil for three months.
