Victoria states government provides es $.40.000 to preserve and develop Timorese mother tongue and local poems

DILI, 7 november 2022 (TATOLI)-  Victoria states government provides $.40.000 for the Xanana Reading Room library to preserve and develop the Timorese Poema using maternal language.

Manager of Xanana Reading Room, Maria Amaral Guterres said currently Xanana Reading Room is implementing the maternal language of Timor-Leste.

“We are planning to launch Makasae and Baikenu in December 2022 and the Mambae language has been launched in May 2021,’’ Guterres told TATOLI at Lesidere, this monday.

She said, that the Xanana Reading Room team has just begun preserving the project poems using Timorese languages in last 2021 adding that the project’s poems will be carried out documentation in five municipalities, which will be finalized in august 2022.

“We are starting a poem project in five municipalities, that speak ‘’TETUM TERIK; Viqueque, Suai, Bobonaro, Manatutu, and Dili.’’ ,’’ She said.

According to Guterres, maternal languages are Timor-Leste’s assets, therefore these languages should be preserved particularly the new generation of Timor-Leste: “The new generation should preserve and promote the originality of these languages and produced more books for the Timorese new generation as well as for international people who wish to learn these languages.

“We are also calling on the Timor-Leste government to put the priority on the preservation and development of Poema using Timorese maternal languages,”

So far, the fund provided by Australia’s Government to Xanana Reading Room focused on two projects, where a total of 24.051,60 USD to preserve Makasae and Baikenu mother tongues, while 22.865,82 USD for the development and production of the Timorese poem project.
