DILI, 11 november 2022 (TATOLI) – Asl Associates Pty, a Queensland-based Australian Private Company, has expressed interest in investing in Timor-Leste, especially in the production of organic-mineral fertilizers.

The company had planned to establish an organic-mineral fertilizer plant in Timor-Leste, with the aim of producing 250,000 tons of organic-mineral fertilizers for domestic use and also for export.

The Director of Asl Associates Pty, Lewis Hunter said that there is a prospect for the company to develop a larger-scale of the organic mineral fertilizer plant in Timor-Leste.

“We are looking for opportunities in Timor-Leste to develop our industry in the organic mineral fertilizer business,” Hunter told reporters after meeting with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, at the President’s Palace in Dili.

“It is just an initial meeting, and we will probably come back in two months to meet with the President of the Republic to discuss the progress of the plan,” he said.

The organic-mineral fertilizer plant would create employment opportunities for hundreds of young Timorese: “There is an employment opportunity, and we will have more than 100 employees per plant. So, the young population in Timor-Leste would be excited.”

When asked about the preferable location for the installation of the plant, Hunter replied that “We are looking for a location near the seaport for the import of materials and also for the export of our finished products.”

He pointed out that the production of organic-mineral fertilizer would support local industry, especially farmers: “We will produce 250,000 tons of organic fertilizer for domestic use as well as for export.”

President Horta encouraged Asl Associates Pty to continue the negotiations on the plant as it would create opportunities for job creation, trade, and export.
