DILI, 05 december 2022 (TATOLI)- The United Nations (UN) in commemoration of 2022 World Volunteer Day reminds the world to respect volunteers who contribute to building society.

United Nation marked the International Volunteer Day for economic and social development with the theme ‘Solidarity through Volunteering’ highlighting the importance of coming together to care for one another.

“On International Volunteer Day, we honor the commitment and contribution of volunteers to build a more just society and a healthier planet,” explained the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement.

Guterres stressed that volunteers show the best of humanity through selfless service: “They are true champions of the work to advance peace, sustainable development, and human rights. And the spirit of giving them enriches everything.”

“This year’s theme “Solidarity through Volunteering” highlights the importance of coming together to care for one another. It’s a reminder that everyone has a role to play. Wherever you live, whatever your skill set, I urge you to take action,” he said.

Today and every day, let’s draw inspiration from all those who, through acts of solidarity large and small, improve the world. And let all decide to do their part to forge a better future for all.

At IVD 2022, the United Nations celebrates the theme of solidarity through volunteerism. For the future of the planet, all must act together and must act now. This is not an era to stand alone but together, as one, in solidarity with each other.

The UN since 1985 coordinates the IVD on 5 December every year to recognize and promote the tireless work, not only of UN Volunteers but of volunteers worldwide.

“Rising inequality around the world begs that we need to work together to find common solutions. Volunteers, united by solidarity, develop solutions to urgent development challenges and for the common good.”

Volunteering is where compassion meets solidarity. Both share the same root values, supporting each other from a position of trust, humility, respect, and equality.
