STAE registers 878.656 residents entitled to take part in the 2023 parliamentary election

DILI, 28 december 2022 (TATOLI)-The Technical Secretariat for the Administration of Elections (STAE) has registered over 878,656 residents who are entitled to take part in the 2023 parliamentary election.

The Director General of the Technical Secretariat of the Election Commission, Acilino Branco said, this figure was taken from updating voter registration which was completed in December 2022.

“STAE has completed voter registration in December 2022 with a total of 878,656 residents at the national level including overseas who are entitled to vote in the 2023 elections,”

Of that number, Branco said, including 18,246 new voters and updated data for a total of 43,296 voters.

In addition, Braco also said that STAE had recorded 1,273 voters who died.

Branco explained the voter database was taken in accordance with government decree number 6 of 2016 and law number 19 of 2021 which allows the STAE to update the number of voters.

For this reason, he said, STAE has been able to complete voter registration in december 2022 at 66 administrative posts across the country.

Branco also explained that another reason for conducting voter registration was to respond to public inquiries about new voters who were 16 years old and also for those who did not have an ID card in previous years, besides that it was also done to respond to the public. with disabilities and the needs of the elderly.

Voter registration activities were conducted based on a schedule set by STAE. The registration is supervised by the Election Commission and Monitoring by the National Parliament and non-governmental organizations.
