Timor Aid requested SoSAC to support Timor Aid establish’Uma Tais’

DILI, january 18, 2022 (TATOLI)– Timor Aid requested the Government Secretary of State for Art and Culture (SoSAC) to support Timor Aid establishing ‘UMA TAIS’ to preserve the Tais of every municipality across Timor-Leste.

Timor Aid Council Member and Cultural Technical Adviser, Maria Lopes da Silva said the plan to establish ‘UMA TAIS’ was an initiative of Timor Aid, to preserve Tais across the country, therefore she has recommended it to SoSAC.

“I have recommended to the Timor-Leste government through the state secretary for Arts and Culture (SoSAC) to support Timor Aid for the establishment, “UMA TAIS, and this recommendation was accepted by the State Secretary for Arts and Culture (SoSAC)” Timor Aid Council member and Technical adviser Culture, Maria Lopes Da Silva told TATOLI at Bairru Dos Gurillos, this Wednesday.

Silva also said that this initiative aims to preserve Timor-Leste’s traditional clothing/Tais.

“We have a responsibility to maintain the Tais Timor originality of each municipality. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a “UMA TAIS” or Tais preservation center, so I hope the government will consider this recommendation to provide conditions to preserve Tais in the right place.”

In addition, Silva said, She discussed this issue with, the President of the Republic in 2022.

“I personally discussed this with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta in 2022. The President said, to support Timor Aid to realize this plan,”

So far, Timor Aid has collected Tais of Timorese originality from 13 municipalities for a total of more than 300 Tais.
