DILI, 25 january 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste Coalition For Education (TLCE) requested the government through the Minister of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) to provide more investment in the Education sector since the country has lacked human resources.

Coordinator of TLCE, José Monteiro said that based on the TLCE observation in the Education sector, TL has lacked teachers which is 15%.

The reason that most of the teachers were Indonesian when Timor-Leste got independent, they all returned to Indonesia country.

“We lack human resources if we are comparing with investments in another sector such as Infrastructure and others. Our Country does not have much investment in the education sector, every year the state budget allocation is very low,” Coordinator of TLCE, José Monteiro told Tatoli, in his office, Caicoli, tuesday.

He added that every year, Timor-Leste spends so much Petroleum funds but there is less investment in Education and Infrastructure as well, therefore Government should use the budget properly.

“If the government invests more in the education sector, it means we will have enough human resources in all aspects in the future, but we are neglecting the education sector and Timor-Leste will more suffer due to lack of human resources.”

He emphasized that when the government through the Minister of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and Minister of High Education Science and Culture (MoHESC) provides more budget for the education sectors it enables Timor-Leste to have enough human resources in 20 and 30 years coming,” he said

TLCE observed that the government should work on efforts to provide appropriate policies to boost education development in the country.

“The education ministry should introduce the appropriate policy and education activity program. As an example the current program called “Eskola Ba Uma” which is not given a great impact on the child government in this Country,” He concluded

So far, in 2019 TLCE has carried out research in 204 primary schools across Timor-Leste.
