Govt approves calendar of voter registration for citizens residing abroad

DILI, 01 february 2022 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers approved the calendar of voter registration operations abroad, presented by the Minister of State Administration, Miguel Pereira de Carvalho.

The Council of Ministers, today, approved the calendar of voter registration for Timorese citizens living abroad, presented by the Minister of State Administration, Miguel Pereira de Carvalho.

“Thus, the training of the members of the Voter Registration Commissions will take place on February 22nd and 23rd 2023, Meanwhile, the voter registration abroad will take place between february 24 and march 24, 2023,” Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães said at the Government Palace, today.

He emphasized that the compilation and submission of voter lists will be done electronically by each diplomatic mission and consular post which will take place on March 25 and 26.

The period for submitting and complaining about the lists of voters registered abroad is set for 27 to 31 march, and the synchronization of the voter registration system will take place between April 1 and 11.

It said that the number of registered voters will be published by April 12, 2023.

Last month, the Council of Ministers (CoM), approved the new amendment to the electoral law, allowing Timorese citizens living abroad to vote in the upcoming parliamentary election through postal voting.

The introduction of postal voting is to help Timorese citizens living abroad to fully participate in the upcoming general elections.
