DILI, 06 february 2023 (TATOLI)—The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) in collaboration with the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) provided training to 47 new forest rangers at the Police Academic Training Center (CFP) before assigned on duty.
CFP Commander – Chief Inspector of Police, Arquimino Ramos, informed that the training was conducted to ensure the preparation of forest rangers to protect themselves from various risks while in forest areas.
“We provide basic introduction training to forest rangers to prepare them physically and discipline,” Comm. Inspector Chief of Police at CFP Comoro, Arquimino Ramos told TATOLI in his office Comoro on monday.
CFP also provides training on citizenship, patriotism, nationalism, and professionalism to ensure the safety of forests in protected areas and protected animals so they are not destroyed by other people.
He added that the follow-up training would be carried out in Rai-Robo village, Atabae district, Bobonaro municipality for two full weeks. The 47 new members consist of 43 men and four women.
“We ask the new forest ranger members to be disciplined during the training because a forest ranger has a big responsibility to protect the preservation of our nature,” he said.
MAP through the Directorate of Forest Conservation and National Ecosystem Development 2021 has recruited 50 forest rangers while in 2022 will recruit another 100 new members, so at the moment MAF already has 200 forest rangers in the National territory.
The jobs of forest rangers themselves are to carry out activities including preparing, implementing, developing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting the activities to protect and safeguard forests’ protected areas and control the distribution of forest products.
