Parliamentary Electoral Calendar: Election campaigns to begin on april 19


DILI, 16 april 2023 (TATOLI) – The election campaign for the parliamentary elections will be kicked off on april 19, 2023, according to the electoral calendar published in the Official Gazette. The 30-day election campaign is scheduled to end on may 19, 2023.

The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, announced on monday, the 21-may, as the date for Timor-Leste’s parliamentary election. The election day is scheduled to start from 7 am to 3 pm, Timor-Leste local time.

So far, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has registered 24 political parties to compete in the next general elections.

According to the electoral calendar published in the Official Gazette, the coalition of political parties must be presented to the National Electoral Commission (NEC) before march 5, 2023. Meanwhile, political parties are required to submit their applications to the Court of Appeal by march 15.

The Court of Appeal is scheduled to have verified the candidacy files and eligibility of political parties by march 25.

The list of admitted political parties would be published in the official gazette between 27 and 29 march.

According to the electoral calendar, the raffle of the admitted political parties will take place on march 28, 2023 to decide the numerical order of political parties on the ballot papers.

STAE will release the number and location of polling centers on april 21, 2023, 30 days prior to election day.

Ballot papers and ballot boxes will be sent out for municipal and regional tabulation on may 21, 2023 after the election.

Municipal and regional tabulation is set to take place between 21 and 23 may 2023. Meanwhile, the result of the tabulation will be sent to the CNE two days after the election date, with a copy to STAE. And the national tabulation will be conducted by CNE from 24 to 27 may, 2023.

Between 4 and 6 june, the Court of Appeal will analyze the documentation sent by the CNE, validate and announce the results of the elections.

The results of the parliamentary elections will be published in the Official Guzzetti on june 7, 2023.
